In the early hours of Father's Day, June 21, 2020, a shooting in Milwaukee claimed the life of 31-year-old Dieria Walton Stokes, a Black/African American male. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of 32nd and West Fairmount. Stokes was driving his vehicle when an unknown assailant or assailants opened fire, striking his car multiple times.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and attempted to render aid, but Stokes ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was
pronounced dead. The immediate aftermath of the shooting left investigators with limited evidence to pursue. The only physical evidence recovered from the scene were bullet casings, and there were no witnesses or surveillance footage available to provide a description of the shooter or their vehicle. The lack of leads has made the investigation particularly challenging for law enforcement.
In the wake of his death, Stokes's sister, LaTonya Stokes, has made public appeals for anyone with information to come forward and assist in finding her brother's killer. She described her brother as a person who disliked guns and had aspirations of opening a group home to care for the elderly. His death has left his family searching for answers and justice.
As of now, the case remains unsolved, with no arrests having been made and no suspects publicly identified. Milwaukee Crime Stoppers has offered a reward for any information that leads to an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of Dieria Walton Stokes.
