In a tragedy that unfolded within a Milwaukee home, Teresa R. Thomas, a 41-year-old Black/African American woman, lost her life on April 27, 2020. She was not the sole victim of the horrific event; four teenagers were also found deceased alongside her. The others who tragically died were Demetrius R. Thomas, 14, Tera R. Agee, 16, Lakeitha M. Stokes, 17, and Marcus G. Stokes, 19. The grim discovery was made after a man placed a distress call to the Milwaukee Police Department, stating that his family was dead.

The man who made that chilling phone call was 43-year-old Christopher Stokes. When law enforcement arrived at the residence, they found Stokes present and he was subsequently arrested in connection with the five deaths. It was later revealed through the investigation that Stokes had a history of domestic violence, and his relationship with Teresa Thomas was described as tumultuous. The incident that claimed five lives was the culmination of a deeply troubled relationship.

Christopher Stokes ultimately confessed to the killings, stating to authorities that he had "massacred" his entire family. The weapon used in the quintuple homicide was a shotgun. In the aftermath of the tragedy, Stokes pleaded guilty to five counts of first-degree reckless homicide and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. In July 2021, a Milwaukee County judge sentenced him to 205 years in prison for his crimes, bringing a legal conclusion to a case that left a family and a community devastated by the profound loss of life.
