Terrance Z. Anderson, a 38-year-old Black/African American man, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of February 8, 2015, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The incident that led to his death began inside the New Entertainer's Lounge, a bar located near 53rd and Green Tree Road, which was owned by his brother. An altercation involving up to four people started inside the establishment and moved towards the entrance.
Witness accounts and family statements revealed that Anderson was acting in
a protective role at the time of the shooting. According to his brother, Derrell Anderson, Terrance was positioned at the front door when he saw a group of men accosting a young woman as they were leaving the bar. Anderson intervened in the situation, and in response, one of the men shot him. Tragically, the violence did not end there. As the assailants exited, they encountered another man, 22-year-old Desha Robertson, in the enclosed entryway and fatally shot him as well.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Milwaukee police launched an investigation, utilizing surveillance footage from both inside and outside the bar in their search for the suspects. The investigation led to the arrest of Pierre Cardell Brown. Video evidence presented in court showed Brown reaching for a gun as Robertson walked ahead of him toward the door, and then turning and firing at Anderson as he approached.
Brown was initially charged with first-degree reckless homicide, but on the eve of his trial, he pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree reckless homicide. In March 2016, a Milwaukee County Circuit Judge sentenced Pierre Cardell Brown to 34 years in prison, to be followed by 20 years of supervised release. During the sentencing, the court heard about the devastating impact the loss had on the families of both Terrance Anderson and Desha Robertson.
