In the early hours of a Saturday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a dispute that began inside a corner tavern tragically escalated, claiming the life of 35-year-old Hispanic male Gabriel Velazquez on August 22, 2015. An altercation with several other men inside the establishment on the 1500 block of S. 15th Street spilled out into the street.
The conflict intensified outside the tavern where Velazquez attempted to drive away.
In the course of events, he reportedly tried to run over two of the men with his vehicle. One of these individuals was armed and opened fire, shooting Velazquez while he was in the driver's seat. Despite being wounded, Velazquez managed to flee the immediate scene in his vehicle.
His attempt to escape ended a short distance away at the intersection of S. Cesar E. Chavez Drive and W. National Avenue, where he succumbed to his injuries and crashed his vehicle. Milwaukee police later released a surveillance video from the tavern showing the suspects wanted in connection with the homicide.
Authorities described the first suspect as a Black male, approximately 5'5" tall and weighing 130 pounds, with a goatee and short, faded hair styled into a small Mohawk. He was reportedly not wearing a shirt and was dressed in dark-colored shorts and white tennis shoes. The second suspect was described as a White or Hispanic male, standing between 5'10" and 6'2" with a light complexion and short hair. He was wearing a light blue t-shirt, blue jeans, and two-toned sneakers. The suspects were seen leaving the scene in an early 2000s tan or gray Saturn that had black front and rear bumpers. No information has been released about any arrests in the case.
