On a tragic evening in Madison, Wisconsin, the life of 19-year-old Tuneija Tornai-Jackson was cut short. On May 24, 2016, the young Black woman, a former student at La Follette High School, was killed in a shooting on the city's east side. The incident that claimed her life also resulted in the death of her 39-year-old father, Mike Jackson.
Authorities investigating the distressing event determined that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide. According to Madison police, Mike Jackson fatally shot his daughter, Tuneija, before turning the gun on himself. This conclusion meant that the person responsible for her death was also deceased.
The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life filled with potential. As the investigation unfolded, it became clear that there would be no arrests or search for suspects in the death of Tuneija Tornai-Jackson, as the perpetrator had been identified at the scene.
