On a summer evening in Madison, Wisconsin, the lives of a young couple were tragically cut short in an act of senseless, hate-fueled violence. Alphonse Manning Jr., a 23-year-old Black man, and his girlfriend, Toni Schwenn, also 23, were in the parking lot of the East Towne Mall on August 7, 1977.
