On a summer evening in Madison, Wisconsin, the lives of a young couple were tragically cut short in a senseless act of hatred. Twenty-three-year-old Toni Lynn Schwenn, a white female, and her boyfriend, Alphonse Manning Jr., a 23-year-old Black male, were in the parking lot of the East Towne Mall on August 7, 1977, when they were targeted and fatally shot.
