Carolanah Rae Schenk, an 11-year-old Caucasian female, tragically died on September 28, 2021, in Fitchburg, a suburb of Madison, Wisconsin. A sixth-grader at Forest Edge Elementary School, she was known for her bright personality and a love for gymnastics, skateboarding, video games, and spending time with her family and their dogs.
On the evening of her death, Fitchburg police responded to a call and found Carolanah with a gunshot wound.
She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The circumstances surrounding the shooting were described by her family as a tragic accident.
In connection with the incident, Carolanah's 15-year-old brother was taken into custody. He was subsequently booked into the Dane County Juvenile Reception Center on a tentative charge of homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon.
