On March 7, 2017, 36-year-old Daniel 'Danny' Lee Baker, also known as 'Dbo,' was fatally shot in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The incident occurred in the 2300 block of South 9th Street, where an argument escalated into violence. Baker was inside the residence of his former girlfriend, Desiree Lee Kerner, when a confrontation arose involving Kerner's current boyfriend, Les Paul Henderson.
The altercation began after Kerner accused someone of inappropriate behavior towards her, prompting Baker to intervene. Tensions heightened when Baker made a phone call, presumably seeking assistance. This action agitated Henderson, who then brandished a. 22 caliber handgun, threatening to shoot Baker. Kerner's brother attempted to defuse the situation by pulling Henderson's arm, but the firearm discharged, striking Baker in the abdomen. Henderson fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Following the incident, Milwaukee police arrested both Henderson and Kerner. Henderson was charged with two felony counts: second-degree reckless homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon. If convicted, he faced up to 25 years in prison for the homicide charge and an additional 10 years for the firearm possession charge. Kerner was not charged directly with the homicide; however, her parole officer detained her due to involvement with drugs, leading to her incarceration for a prior felony conviction.
The investigation revealed that Kerner and her brother were initially uncooperative with authorities, refusing to identify Henderson as the shooter. However, police were able to identify Henderson through fingerprints lifted from a beer can left at the scene. Baker was transported to a local hospital following the shooting but succumbed to his injuries. He is survived by four children.
