On March 1, 2023, Jose Jay Monarrez, a 15-year-old boy from Milwaukee, was shot and killed in an incident that has drawn attention to the issue of gun violence among youth. The shooting occurred around 10:13 a.m. at his girlfriend's residence, where he sustained life-threatening injuries. Despite immediate medical attention, Monarrez was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.
