In the summer of 2022, a tragic series of events unfolded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, leading to the death of 50-year-old Hispanic male, Eduardo Hernandez. On the evening of July 8th, Hernandez was fatally shot in the hallway of his duplex located near 65th and Carmen. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. while his long-time girlfriend and their son were present in the home.
They identified the shooter as their upstairs neighbor, who fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
The investigation into Hernandez's death quickly connected to another homicide that occurred less than 30 minutes later. Four miles away, 66-year-old Cynthia Walker was found shot to death on her front porch. Surveillance footage captured a man pulling up, approaching Walker, and shooting her in the head before driving off. The suspect in both killings was identified as 62-year-old Allen Grant. Walker was Grant's ex-girlfriend, and Hernandez was his neighbor.
Hours after the two fatal shootings, Grant was arrested following a car crash. Inside his vehicle, police discovered a handgun and a spent casing that matched the type used in both the Hernandez and Walker homicides. At the time of the murders, Grant was out on a $1,000 bond for a previous case in which he was charged with leading police on a high-speed chase while intoxicated and illegally possessing a firearm. He had made a court appearance for that case just one day before the killings.
Allen Grant was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree reckless homicide. He initially pleaded not guilty but later changed his plea to guilty. In May 2023, Grant was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the deaths of Eduardo Hernandez and Cynthia Walker. He received a 25-year sentence for each count, to be served consecutively, along with 20 years of extended supervision.
