On a Sunday morning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the life of Darrius L. Rose, a 26-year-old Black / African American male, was cut short. On October 29, 2017, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Rose was inside a vehicle in a shopping center parking lot in the 6000 block of North Teutonia Avenue when he was fatally shot. The suspects, who were in another vehicle, fled the scene after the shooting.
Rose was pronounced dead at the location.
The investigation that followed revealed that the shooting was not an isolated incident but part of a wider, violent crime spree that had been plaguing the city. This series of crimes, carried out by rival groups, included other shootings, robberies, and drug-related activities. The violence was extensive, with law enforcement recovering evidence of at least 267 rounds being fired across several incidents. The investigation into the interconnected crimes was a collaborative effort involving the Milwaukee Police Department and several other local law enforcement agencies.
As a result of this multi-agency investigation, two individuals were eventually charged in connection with the crime spree. An 18-year-old named Caleb Virgil was identified and charged with the fatal shooting of Darrius Rose.
