Alfonzie Cockroft, aged 32, tragically lost his life on May 12, 2018, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The incident occurred during an alleged drug transaction near Palmetto and Grantosa. According to reports, Cockroft was found slumped over in the driver's seat of an SUV with multiple gunshot wounds, one to the chest and one to the abdomen. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide.
The investigation revealed that Cockroft was involved in a drug deal that turned violent.
He was meeting with Larry Benford and Deshawn Moore, both 21 at the time, to sell a half-pound of marijuana. The plan, however, was for Benford and Moore to rob Cockroft. They believed Cockroft would not be armed, but he produced a gun during the transaction, leading to a shootout. Cockroft was fatally shot, while both Benford and Moore were injured.
Following the incident, both Benford and Moore were charged with felony murder. Moore reached a plea deal and pleaded guilty to one count of felony murder on February 1, 2019. He was scheduled to be sentenced on April 5, 2019. Benford faced additional charges of felony bail jumping due to a prior marijuana charge for which he was out on bail.
The case highlighted the dangers associated with illegal drug transactions and the tragic consequences that can arise from such activities. The investigation and subsequent legal proceedings aimed to bring justice for Cockroft's untimely death.
