In the late morning of May 18, 2018, the life of 25-year-old Montell D. Gordon, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short on Milwaukee's north side. The incident unfolded shortly after 11 a.m. in the 3900 block of West Good Hope Road, where Gordon was shot. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries. In the immediate aftermath, family and friends gathered to mourn their loss, releasing balloons in his honor as they grappled with the sudden violence that had taken
him from them.
The Milwaukee Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide, actively seeking a motive for the shooting. Their search for answers soon led them to a suspect. Niyoktron T. Martin, a 21-year-old man, was identified and subsequently charged with felony murder. Investigators determined that Gordon's death occurred during a robbery in which Martin was allegedly involved.
The arrest of Martin came just a few days after the shooting, on May 21, 2018, in Port Washington. He was apprehended for a separate incident involving an attempted carjacking. A crucial piece of evidence linking Martin to Gordon's death came from blood stains found on the trousers he was wearing at the time of his arrest. Forensic analysis confirmed the blood belonged to both Martin and Montell Gordon, placing him at the scene of the murder. Martin faced charges for both the Port Washington incident and the murder of Gordon, with his bail set at $150,000 for the charges related to Gordon's death.
