Rolando Barrera-Tafolla, aged 44, was tragically killed on July 16, 2019, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The incident occurred near Burnham Park, where Barrera was found dead in his vehicle following an apparent crash. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle come out of an alley near 34th and Mitchell streets, crash through a fence, and drive across a field before coming to a stop. According to the informant, the motive behind the shooting was a drug deal gone wrong. Balli believed that Barrera had stolen $100,000 intended for purchasing drugs. Further evidence linking Balli to the crime included his fingerprints found inside Barrera's SUV.
Mario Balli was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree reckless homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon. During his trial, Balli was found guilty of the charges. On August 17, 2023, he was sentenced to 23 years in prison, followed by 10 years of extended supervision. The case highlighted the dangerous consequences of illegal drug activities and the severe impact they can have on individuals and communities.
