In the early morning hours of June 22, 2014, a house party on Milwaukee's south side turned into a scene of tragedy. Kwata S. Shields, a 19-year-old African-American male, was fatally shot at a gathering in the 2100 block of S. 20th Street. The incident, which occurred around 1:50 a.m., also left a 16-year-old boy seriously wounded, though he was expected to survive his injuries. The sudden violence cut short the life of a young man who was remembered by those who knew him as a natural leader.
