On a tragic day in March of 2020, the life of Calvin J. Barber Jr., a 38-year-old Caucasian male, was cut short in Green Bay, Wisconsin. His death on March 24, 2020, was the result of gun violence and would later be ruled a homicide. Barber was discovered deceased in his residence on Imperial Lane, prompting an investigation by the Green Bay Police Department.
Originally from Rhinelander, Wisconsin, Calvin had moved to Green Bay in 2012.
He was a graduate of Rhinelander High School and had also attended Nicolet College. Those who knew him remembered his enjoyment of reading and sports, but most of all, they recalled his deep love for his family and the joy he found in spending time with his nieces and nephews.
The investigation into Calvin's death led to the identification of a suspect, Marcus Stokes. In a significant development, Stokes was arrested and subsequently charged with the murder of Calvin Barber. The legal proceedings that followed culminated in a jury finding Stokes guilty of the crime.
In September 2023, Marcus Stokes was sentenced for the murder of Calvin Barber. A judge handed down a mandatory life sentence in prison. Furthermore, the judge denied the possibility of parole, ensuring that Stokes would spend the remainder of his life incarcerated for the violent act that ended Calvin Barber's life.
