On the evening of May 1, 2021, a tragic shooting unfolded at the Oneida Casino complex in Green Bay, Wisconsin, claiming the life of 32-year-old Ian J. Simpson. Simpson, a White male, was fatally wounded during the attack that also resulted in the death of another individual and serious injury to a third person.
The incident began when a former employee of the Duck Creek Kitchen and Bar, located within the casino's Radisson Hotel, entered the establishment with a 9mm handgun.
The gunman, identified as 62-year-old Bruce Pofahl, had been terminated from his job earlier in the year and was prohibited from being on the premises. Reports indicate that Pofahl was targeting a specific female employee with whom he had a history of harassment, which had led to a restraining order being filed against him.
Upon discovering the intended victim was not at work, Pofahl proceeded to shoot at her friends and coworkers. Ian J. Simpson and Jacob Bartel, age 35, were shot at a waiter station inside the restaurant and succumbed to their injuries. Pofahl then moved outside and shot a third victim, Daniel Mulligan, who sustained serious but stable injuries.
Law enforcement officers from the Green Bay Police Department, along with other agencies, responded to the active shooter situation. In the ensuing confrontation, police shot and killed the suspect, Bruce Pofahl, on the north side of the building. The investigation into the homicides was handled by the Oneida Tribal Police Department and the Brown County Sheriff's Office, while the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation took charge of the officer-involved shooting aspect of the case.
