On the evening of April 7, 2021, Jeffrey Vaughn, a 30-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot at a gas station on the north side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The incident, which also resulted in the death of 20-year-old Malaysha B. Smith and injuries to two others, unfolded from an argument that began inside the gas station and escalated into gunfire outside near 26th and Capitol.
Family and friends gathered for vigils the following day to remember Vaughn, who was described
as a remarkable man and a father to a young son. His stepfather remembered him as someone people could always count on, a person who was just a phone call away to help with anything, particularly with fixing cars. He was a cherished figure whose loss was deeply felt by many in the community.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Milwaukee police took a 26-year-old man into custody in connection with the quadruple shooting. Authorities announced at the time that they were continuing to search for other individuals who may have been involved in the incident. The investigation into the argument and subsequent violence that cut short two lives and wounded two others was ongoing.
