Shyir McCoy, a 16-year-old Black/African American male, was fatally shot on Sunday, June 2, 2024. The incident that led to his untimely death occurred just before 6:30 p.m. in the vicinity of 38th and Meinecke, a neighborhood that has become all too familiar with the sounds of gunfire.
On that day, Shyir had reportedly gone to play basketball with friends, an ordinary pastime for a teenager on a weekend.
The circumstances following the shooting are particularly harrowing and have left his family with a profound sense of anguish and a desperate search for answers. Instead of being rushed to a hospital for the urgent medical care he needed, Shyir was dropped off outside a relative's home.
