In the early evening of a summer day that should have been filled with the simple joys of youth, a tragedy unfolded on the north side of Milwaukee that cut short the life of a young man. Shyir McCoy, a 16-year-old Black/African American male, was fatally shot on Sunday, June 2, 2024. The incident that led to his untimely death occurred just before 6:30 p.m. in the vicinity of 38th and Meinecke, a neighborhood that has become all too familiar with the sounds of gunfire.
