Dominique Marie Wilson, a 34-year-old Black/African American woman, was a beloved mother, grandmother, partner, and daughter known for her positive attitude and infectious laugh. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 4, 1986, she later moved to Wisconsin and attended Green Bay West High School. She built a life in Green Bay, where she worked as an insurance representative and was the loving partner of Sam Burch, with whom she shared a beautiful family.
Dominique was known for her strong family ties and her talents in styling hair and cooking.
On the morning of Sunday, November 14, 2021, a tragic series of events unfolded at a Marathon Gas station on East Walnut Street in Green Bay. An altercation broke out involving several women, during which bats, brass knuckles, and pepper spray were reportedly used. In the midst of this chaotic scene, Dominique Wilson was shot multiple times. She was transported to a local hospital, but tragically, she succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation into the fatal shooting identified the shooter as Jaylene Edwards. According to the Brown County District Attorney's Office, evidence indicated that during the altercation, Wilson had drawn a handgun and was pointing it at people in the parking lot. It was at that moment that Edwards, who was present at the scene, pulled out his own firearm and shot Wilson several times.
Two days after the incident, Edwards voluntarily came forward to speak with investigators, and his account was found to be largely consistent with the evidence gathered by the Green Bay Police Department. After a thorough review of the case, Brown County District Attorney David Lasee announced that no charges would be filed against Edwards. The district attorney concluded that Edwards had acted in self-defense, stating that the evidence suggested he had a reasonable fear for his life and the lives of others. Lasee described Wilson's death as a "tragic event."
