Skyé Bleu Evans-Cowley, a 5-year-old girl from Green Bay, Wisconsin, tragically lost her life on October 17, 2022. The incident occurred when she was accidentally shot by another child who had been handed a loaded gun by Jordan J. Leavy-Carter, who was dating Skyé's mother at the time. According to the criminal complaint, Leavy-Carter had left the gun on a TV stand, and one of the children in the home picked it up and accidentally fired it, hitting Skyé.
The child involved in the shooting stated that she 'touched the wrong button, and it came out like fire,' indicating that the shooting was accidental.
Following the incident, Leavy-Carter fled the scene but was later apprehended in Beloit and brought back to Green Bay. He has been charged with second-degree reckless homicide, neglecting a child resulting in death, and possession of a firearm by a felon. During his initial court appearance, Leavy-Carter denied handing the gun to the child but admitted to leaving it in a place where the children could access it. He faces significant prison time if convicted.

Her mother, LaKayla Evans, expressed profound grief, stating that no matter the outcome of the legal proceedings, justice would never truly be served as her daughter was gone forever.
