In Green Bay, Wisconsin, a 31-year-old Caucasian female named Melissa "Missy" Lemerond, became a tragic victim of domestic violence on April 25, 2022. Her life was cut short in a murder-suicide orchestrated by her estranged husband, Walter Gray. The devastating event took place in the home they had once shared. At the time of the incident, the couple was separated, and Missy had taken legal steps to end their marriage, filing for divorce in late March of the same year.

protection, Missy had also been granted a temporary restraining order against Gray on the same day she filed for divorce. Despite these measures, the situation escalated tragically. Concerned for her safety due to Gray's increasingly unstable behavior, she had sought refuge at a domestic violence shelter, Golden House, prior to her death. Her mother, Cindy Gulmire, later recounted that Missy had expressed fear of her estranged husband.
On that fateful Monday morning, police were dispatched to the couple's former residence on Third Street, where they discovered both Missy and Walter Gray deceased from gunshot wounds. The investigation concluded that Gray had shot and killed Missy before taking his own life. The tragedy was compounded by the fact that their two young sons, aged six and two, were present in the home and witnessed the horrific events. One of the children reportedly called 911. In the aftermath, the children were placed in the care of their maternal grandmother.
