Nasean Wyatt, a 16-year-old Black / African American male, tragically lost his life on September 11, 2022, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In the early hours of the morning, Nasean was shot and killed in what authorities have described as a targeted attack. Despite the efforts of emergency responders who arrived at the scene, he succumbed to his injuries.
The Milwaukee Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the fatal shooting.
Investigators began to piece together the events of that morning, aided by statements from several witnesses who were present at the time of the incident. Surveillance footage from the surrounding area also proved crucial in identifying persons of interest. In the weeks that followed the shooting, the investigation led to the arrest of two individuals, both in their late teens. These arrests were made after search warrants were executed, which resulted in the discovery of firearms and other evidence that linked the two suspects to the crime.
The two teenage suspects were subsequently charged with first-degree intentional homicide. In court, both individuals pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them. Their defense has argued that there is a lack of sufficient evidence for a conviction. The prosecution, however, has maintained that they have a strong case, citing forensic evidence and witness testimonies. The community has held vigils and memorials in honor of Nasean, remembering him as a bright and promising young man whose life was cut short. The legal proceedings in this case are ongoing.
