Paul Brennan, aged 75, and his wife Lori Brennan were tragically killed on October 2, 2022, in Little Suamico, Wisconsin. after the murders. Steinmetz, who had a history of substance abuse, admitted to using methamphetamine daily and claimed that he had been awake for five days leading up to the incident. He told investigators that he heard voices instructing him to take a life to save his family.
David Steinmetz was charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide. In December 2023, he reached a plea deal and pleaded no contest to the charges. The plea deal included dropping a count of possession of a firearm by a felon. Steinmetz's conviction carries a mandatory life prison term, with the possibility of the judge setting a date for parole eligibility. Prosecutors are seeking life sentences without the possibility of parole.
