On a Sunday morning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on December 4, 2022, the life of 36-year-old Nyeshia Liggins, a Black/African American female, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. Liggins, a mother of five, had entered a Citgo gas station near North 107th Street and West Heather Avenue with her 50-year-old boyfriend, Ted F. Robertson. Surveillance footage from inside the store showed the couple appearing to be in good spirits as they made a purchase.
After leaving the gas
station, Liggins and Robertson got into the back of a van parked at one of the pumps. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots shortly after. Security footage then captured Liggins stumbling out of the van and running back into the gas station, where she collapsed, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The van was seen speeding away from the scene immediately after she exited the vehicle. Liggins was pronounced dead inside the store.
The investigation into her death quickly evolved into a double homicide investigation. Two days later, the van connected to the shooting was discovered on the 1300 block of North 22nd Street. Inside the vehicle, police found the body of Ted F. Robertson, who had also been shot multiple times.
Authorities began searching for at least one unknown suspect believed to have been in the van with the couple. A witness at the scene reported seeing a third person in the front passenger seat of the van who appeared to be known to Liggins and Robertson. Despite the presence of numerous witnesses and surveillance footage, the shooter has not been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the double homicide. The Milwaukee Police Department's investigation into the deaths of Nyeshia Liggins and Ted Robertson is ongoing, leaving their families searching for answers.
