In the early evening of June 5, 2020, Alona Gentry, a 26-year-old Black/African American woman, was fatally shot in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The incident, which unfolded in the 8500 block of West Appleton Avenue, was the result of a domestic dispute. Milwaukee police responded to a call around 7:30 p.m. and found Gentry with gunshot wounds. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries later that night.
Authorities swiftly identified her boyfriend as the perpetrator, stating that
he shot her during an argument. The case was classified as a domestic violence homicide. In the aftermath of the shooting, Alona’s boyfriend was arrested and subsequently charged in connection with her death.
Alona, born on June 20, 1993, in Racine, Wisconsin, was a mother to a young daughter named Trinity. She was a graduate of Bloomington High School in Illinois, where she was known as a talented track athlete and also enjoyed playing basketball. Her life was remembered by her family, including her parents, sister, and brother. The tragic nature of her death prompted an outpouring of community support, leading to the creation of a GoFundMe campaign to assist with her funeral expenses and provide for her daughter.
