In the spring of 2016, the life of a young man, Shawn Martinez, was tragically cut short on the streets of Yakima, Washington. The 23-year-old Hispanic male was shot multiple times on the evening of Friday, April 29, 2016, at the intersection of 8th and D Streets. His family described him as a quiet and good person, and his violent death sent ripples of shock and grief through his community.
