Jared Eugene Scroggins, a 23-year-old male and an enrolled member of the Chickasaw Nation, was tragically killed on the evening of March 5, 2017, in Yakima, Washington. He was walking with a friend on East 'D' Street at approximately 10:30 p.m. when he was fatally shot in what has been described as a senseless and random act of violence. His death came just one day before his son's second birthday.
Known for his free spirit and fearless approach to life, Jared was a beloved father, son,
and brother. He had a passion for riding dirt bikes and driving anything with four wheels. His greatest joy was his son, Gunnar. He cherished spending time with his family, whether it was fishing and hunting with his father, or enjoying family get-togethers. Those who knew him remember his big heart and the love he openly shared with them.
The investigation into Jared's murder remains ongoing. Despite the efforts of the Yakima Police Department, no arrests have been made in connection with his death. His case is considered a cold case, and authorities continue to seek information from the public. A monetary reward has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for his death. His family and the community continue to hope for justice and closure.
