In the autumn of 2017, the life of a young man, a White / Caucasian 17-year-old male named Napoleon Prado, was tragically cut short on the streets of Yakima, Washington. On the evening of October 24th, an encounter turned deadly when Prado was shot multiple times. Reports indicate that a Chevrolet Impala approached him, and an individual exited the vehicle to speak with him before opening fire.
Prado was gravely wounded and, despite being rushed to a local hospital, succumbed to his injuries, bleeding to death from the multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into his death quickly identified a primary suspect, 15-year-old Luis Medina-Beltran. A warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of first- and second-degree murder, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm. For a time, the young suspect remained at large, with law enforcement considering him armed and dangerous. The search for him and his alleged accomplices became a priority for the Yakima Police Department as they sought to bring justice for Prado and his grieving family.
In January of the following year, a breakthrough came in the case when Luis Medina-Beltran was finally apprehended by Yakima Police. Alongside the primary suspect, two other teenagers, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old, were also taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. The capture of the suspects brought a sense of closure to the investigation, though it could never erase the profound loss felt by those who knew and loved Napoleon Prado, a high school student remembered for his vibrant personality and close relationship with his family.
