Fourteen-year-old Charles Edward Patrick Taylor, a White/Caucasian male, died on September 14, 2020, after being shot in Yakima, Washington. The incident occurred at a residence in the 1100 block of Willow Street. Following the shooting, Taylor was transported by a private vehicle to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds. Authorities recovered the shotgun used in the incident at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the teenager, who was identified as a
documented gang member, was treated as a gang-related homicide. Detectives pieced together the events of that evening based on information from individuals who were present at the home. According to their accounts, the suspect had been recklessly pointing the shotgun at several people inside the apartment before the weapon discharged, striking Taylor. An autopsy later confirmed his death was a homicide.
On September 29, 2020, detectives with the Yakima Police Department's Gang Unit arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with the shooting. The suspect, also a documented gang member, was taken into custody at a home in the 1500 block of South 13th Street. Due to his status as a minor, his name was not publicly released. After his arrest, the suspect refused to provide investigators with a motive for the shooting. He was booked into the Yakima County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of first-degree manslaughter and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
