In the early hours of a Sunday morning in August 2017, the life of 18-year-old Marco Fuentes of Sunnyside, Washington, was tragically cut short. The young Hispanic male was at a large party near the small agricultural town of Mabton in Yakima County. At approximately 3 a.m. on August 13th, violence erupted, and the festive atmosphere was shattered by the sound of gunfire.
When the chaos subsided, Marco Fuentes was found to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. He was rushed to Prosser Community Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead. Another individual was also wounded in the shooting and was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The Yakima County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the homicide.
