On June 10, 2012, 16-year-old Joseph Briggs was shot and killed while standing on the front porch of his home in Chicago's Marquette Park neighborhood. The fatal shooting took place around 8 p.m. the previous evening, when a bullet from a passing car struck Briggs in the head. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead early the next morning.
