On a late summer afternoon, the tranquility of Langus Riverfront Park in Everett, Washington was shattered by the sound of a single gunshot. It was August 31, 2020, and 56-year-old James R. Scannell, a White male from Everett, was sitting in his vehicle in the park's boat launch parking lot, unaware of the violence that was about to unfold. The incident, which occurred around 3:15 p.m., would leave Scannell dead and set off a chain of events leading to the arrest and conviction of three men.
