In the late hours of August 29, 2021, a tragedy unfolded in the Bagley Downs neighborhood of Vancouver, Washington, forever altering the lives of a local family. Tyler R. Harris, a 28-year-old man, was at his apartment in the 3500 block of Northeast 50th Court when a knock came at his door shortly before 11:45 p.m. When he answered, he was met by a man and two women, leading to a confrontation in his doorway.
Moments later, the sound of a gunshot echoed through the area.
A neighbor, startled by the loud noise, discovered a horrifying scene: Tyler Harris was lying in the doorway of his residence, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. When police officers arrived, they found him deceased. His death was quickly ruled a homicide by the Clark County Medical Examiner's Office, launching a major investigation into who was responsible for ending the young man's life.
The investigation, led by the Vancouver Police Department's Major Crimes Unit, soon uncovered surveillance footage from the night of the shooting. The video showed the three individuals who had approached Harris's door just before he was killed. Investigators released descriptions of the suspects in the hope that the public could help identify them. One woman was described as wearing dark-colored leggings with a red and white Fila logo on the side. The second woman wore dark, cropped leggings, and a dark-colored hoodie that appeared to have a Washington State Cougar logo and "Washington State" printed on the front. The man was wearing distinctive Nike shoes that were white and black in the front and orange and yellow on the back. After the single, fatal shot was fired, the trio was seen fleeing the scene.
Despite the availability of the surveillance images and a reward of up to $2,500 offered by Crime Stoppers of Oregon for information leading to an arrest, the case has grown cold. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Tyler Harris's murder, and no suspects have been publicly identified. His family, who described him as a caring and strong young man with a bright future, continues to seek justice. The case remains an active and unsolved homicide investigation with the Vancouver Police Department.
