On the morning of May 25, 2022, a tragic event unfolded in an apartment in Everett, Washington, leading to the death of 40-year-old Hashawna Cole, a Black/African American female. Police were dispatched to a residence on Holly Drive after receiving a report of a person being threatened with a gun. Upon their arrival, they encountered a witness who relayed the alarming situation inside one of the apartments.
Concerned for the welfare of the occupants, officers made a forced entry into the
home. Inside, they discovered a grim scene. Hashawna Cole and a 41-year-old man, Kierre Scott, were both found deceased. It was apparent that both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The initial investigation pointed towards a murder-suicide, a scenario that would later be confirmed by the authorities.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an official examination and determined that Hashawna Cole's death was a homicide. Conversely, Kierre Scott's death was ruled a suicide. Based on these findings, law enforcement concluded that Scott was the sole suspect in Cole's murder and that no other individuals were involved. Consequently, no arrests were made, and the case was closed as there were no outstanding suspects. The community was left to mourn the loss of Hashawna Cole in what was a deeply sorrowful and conclusive case of domestic violence.
