On a tragic day in Everett, Washington, 42-year-old White female Irene Deni Halverson, known to her loved ones as "Deni," found her life cut short. On February 13, 2015, she was visiting a home that would become the scene of a violent shooting. She was an unintended victim, simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. The incident that claimed her life also resulted in the death of Kevin Odneal and seriously injured another woman.
Halverson, a mother to two daughters, was remembered by her family as a caring person whose children were her world.
The perpetrator of this violence was 39-year-old Tye Fleischer. Despondent after a relapse on methamphetamine, Fleischer had gone to the residence, a clean-and-sober house he managed, with the intent to confront a tenant who had also relapsed and a man he considered a drug dealer, Kevin Odneal. Fleischer had no personal issue with Halverson; she was tragically caught in the deadly rampage he initiated. After the shooting, Fleischer fled the scene but later called 911, admitting to the killings.
Following the incident, Tye Fleischer was arrested and faced justice. He was charged with aggravated first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. During his trial, prosecutors argued that the attack was a planned event, stemming from Fleischer's despair over his drug relapse. His defense team put forth a claim of self-defense, a narrative that the jury ultimately did not believe.
The trial concluded with a guilty verdict. The jury convicted Fleischer of aggravated murder and attempted first-degree murder. As a result of his conviction for these violent acts, Tye Fleischer received a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
