In the quiet neighborhood of Capitol Hill, Seattle, a tragedy unfolded within the home of a long-married couple. Alice Mae Scott, an 83-year-old female, was found deceased in her residence in what became the city's 10th domestic-violence homicide of that year. Her life was cut short sometime between June 1 and June 6, 2022. The cause of her death was a shotgun wound to the chest.
The days following her death were shrouded in silence until her husband took an unexpected step.
The investigation into her death took a sharp turn when her 89-year-old husband, Isaac Ealy, walked into the Seattle Police Department's East Precinct and confessed to killing his wife. His confession came after one of Scott's sons had visited the house, and Ealy had turned him away at the window, an unusual occurrence that likely spurred his decision to turn himself in. According to court documents, Ealy stated that he and his wife had been arguing and had not been getting along for a long time.
Following his confession, Isaac Ealy was charged with premeditated first-degree murder with a domestic violence allegation. He told authorities he had retrieved a 12-gauge shotgun from a locked storage box in the basement, went upstairs, and shot his wife while she was in the bathroom. He then left her body in the bathroom for several days. Ealy was booked into the King County Jail with bail set at $2 million. Given his age, a conviction on the first-degree murder charge would likely mean a life sentence.
