In the late summer of 2008, the life of Ricardo V. Washburn, a 52-year-old African-American man, was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. On the evening of Wednesday, September 10, Washburn was fatally shot during the theft of his vehicle at 416 N 26th Street. The incident left his family and the wider community in shock and mourning. To this day, the case remains unsolved, with no arrests made and no suspects publicly identified.
Ricardo was a beloved husband to his wife,
Deborah, and a father to two children, Ricco Washburn and Honey Elder. He was also a stepfather to three children from his wife's previous relationship. An employee at Ralcorp-Bakery Chef, he was known as a dedicated family man and an active member of his community. He attended St. Stephen Church and was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Gamma Theta Chapter. His sudden and violent death left a significant void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
In the wake of his death, Ricardo's family and friends gathered to honor his memory, holding funeral services at St. Stephen Church before he was laid to rest in Cave Hill Cemetery. The pain of their loss was compounded by the lack of answers and justice for the person responsible for his murder. The Louisville Metro Police Department's investigation into the homicide has yet to lead to a resolution, leaving a lingering sense of sorrow and a desire for closure within the community.
