In the early morning hours of October 5, 2014, the life of 36-year-old Darnell Bates, a Black male, was tragically cut short in what police described as a home invasion in Lexington, Kentucky. Bates was at his residence on Addie Alley when two men wearing dark clothing and masks forced their way inside. A struggle ensued, and during the altercation, Bates was shot in the stomach.
