In the winter of 2018, a promising young life was tragically cut short in Lexington, Kentucky. Christopher William Spencer, a 19-year-old male, was fatally shot on February 6, 2018. A graduate of Henry Clay High School and working as an electrical assistant, Christopher was known for his love of the outdoors, often spending his time hunting and fishing.
The events that led to his untimely death began to unfold at a residence on Squires Woods Way.
On that Tuesday evening, a man named Morgan Johnson abducted a woman and brought her to the home. There, the situation escalated dramatically when Johnson sexually assaulted the woman and then shot Christopher Spencer. When police arrived, they found Christopher on the porch of the residence with multiple gunshot wounds.
Following the incident, law enforcement officials began an investigation that quickly pointed to Morgan Johnson as the primary suspect. After several hours of negotiation with police at the same residence where the shooting occurred, Johnson was taken into custody. It was later revealed that just a week prior to the fatal shooting, police had been called to the same location for a report of a suicidal man and had taken Johnson to a mental health hospital.
Morgan Johnson was subsequently charged with murder, unlawful imprisonment, and burglary. In a plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to these charges. As part of this agreement, a rape charge was dismissed. On September 8, 2022, Johnson was sentenced to 35 years in prison for his role in the events that led to the death of Christopher Spencer.
