In the summer of 2015, a deeply unsettling event shattered the peace of the Chickasaw neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky, leaving a family heartbroken and a community searching for answers. On the evening of July 2nd, James Toody Moore, a 28-year-old Black male, was on the porch of his home when he was tragically gunned down. The sudden violence of his death, caused by multiple gunshot wounds, left behind a profound sense of loss for those who knew and loved him.
Moore, affectionately
known as 'Toody' or 'Tumo' by his friends and family, was a father to three children who were left to navigate a world without his presence. He was an employee at the JBS Meat Packaging Company, and his loved ones remember him as a man dedicated to providing for his family. In the days leading up to his death, there were whispers of trouble in the neighborhood, with his aunt recalling a conversation where Moore mentioned recent shootings but insisted he was not involved, positioning himself as a peacemaker.
Despite the initial investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department, the individuals responsible for James Toody Moore's death have never been brought to justice. In the immediate aftermath, police appealed to the public for any information that could lead to a suspect, but no arrests were ever made.
