In the early days of 2016, the life of 38-year-old Marc 'Markie' Morgan was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. On January 6th, an altercation at a mobile home park in the 2400 block of Autumn Lake Drive escalated to a fatal conclusion. During the dispute, Morgan was shot in the chest. He was rushed to University Hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries, marking the first homicide of the year in the city.
Following the incident, law enforcement quickly identified a
suspect. Austin Patton, 20 years old at the time, was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. According to police reports, Patton admitted to his involvement in the shooting. He also confessed to fleeing the scene and attempting to sell the weapon used in the commission of the crime. His arrest took place at a hotel the day after the shooting.
Patton faced a series of serious charges, including murder, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Despite what authorities described as a confession, Patton pleaded not guilty to the charges during his initial court appearance. He was held on a $250,000 bond. The police indicated that Patton and Morgan were acquainted with each other prior to the deadly encounter.
