Vernardo Jones Jr., a 14-year-old African American boy, was tragically killed on July 4, 2020, in Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago, where Vernardo was attending a large gathering in the street. Around 11:35 p.m., four males approached the crowd and began shooting. Vernardo was struck in the back and was later pronounced dead at Comer Children’s Hospital.
