In the spring of 2016, the life of 42-year-old Jennifer Cain was tragically cut short in her Louisville, Kentucky home. On the evening of Friday, May 13, authorities responded to a call of a shooting in the Shelby Park neighborhood. Inside a residence on South Shelby Street, they discovered Jennifer, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man was also found inside the home with life-threatening gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital.
The investigation into the double shooting led police to two suspects. In July 2016, a Jefferson County grand jury indicted Bryan Greenwell, then 39, and Jodie Cecil, then 37, on charges of murder, criminal attempted murder, and first-degree assault in connection with the incident. Greenwell faced additional charges, including possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and tampering with physical evidence. Cecil was arrested in early August of that year.
The legal proceedings against the two accused individuals concluded in May 2018. A jury found both Bryan Greenwell and Jodie Cecil guilty of the murder of Jennifer Cain and first-degree assault for the injuries sustained by the male victim. Greenwell was also found guilty on the additional charges of tampering with physical evidence and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
