In the spring of 2016, the life of 19-year-old Ryan Young Higdon was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. On May 29th, the young man was found deceased inside a car near the Greenwood Boat Docks in Riverview Park. An investigation revealed that he had been shot in the face during what was determined to be a robbery. Known by his friends and family for his kind nature and his passions for basketball, fashion, and shoes, his sudden death sent ripples through the community.
The
events leading to Higdon's death began to unfold as a planned meeting to purchase marijuana. Four other teenagers were involved in the incident that ultimately turned fatal. According to investigators, the group had arranged to meet Higdon at the park. It was during this encounter that the situation escalated, resulting in Higdon being shot multiple times while inside his vehicle. After the shooting, the individuals fled the scene.
The subsequent police investigation led to the arrest of four suspects: Ja'Lyn Wells, Ke'Montrae Davis, Theodric Hayes, and Kevin Grover. Wells, who was 19 at the time, admitted to being the one who shot Higdon. He claimed he felt his life was in danger during the encounter. The other three individuals were also charged in connection with the robbery and murder.
Ultimately, the legal process brought a measure of closure to the case. Ja'Lyn Wells was sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder, robbery, and tampering with evidence. The other three men, Ke'Montrae Davis, Theodric Hayes, and Kevin Grover, pleaded guilty to facilitation to murder and facilitation to armed robbery. Each of them received a 10-year prison sentence for their roles in the crime.
