In the Park Hill neighborhood of Louisville, a story of hopeful fortune took a tragic and violent turn on the afternoon of Friday, November 18, 2016. Leroy Williams, a 37-year-old man, was found shot to death in an alley located in the 1300 block of Dixie Highway. The incident, which unfolded just before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Dixie Highway and Wilson Avenue, cut short a life that had just experienced a moment of good luck.
According to those in the neighborhood, Williams had
been at a local store attempting to cash two winning lottery tickets. It was this stroke of good fortune that seemingly made him a target. A woman who knew him described him as a 'great guy' who minded his own business and was not known to cause trouble. She mentioned that he had been going through some tough times, and the lottery winnings would have been a significant blessing for him.
The investigation into the homicide led police to a suspect who had also sustained a gunshot wound during the incident. This individual transported himself to University Hospital for treatment. He was subsequently identified as 27-year-old Anthony Taylor. On Wednesday, November 23, 2016, police arrested Taylor and charged him with murder and robbery in the first degree in connection with Williams's death.
Further investigation revealed that Taylor, along with another man, 29-year-old Eric Eugene Taylor, was also allegedly involved in the beating and robbery of a woman earlier on the same day as the fatal shooting. Following Taylor's arrest, police stated that there were no outstanding suspects in the murder of Leroy Williams.
