In the spring of 2017, the life of Ricky Lee Jones, a 29-year-old male, was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. A resident of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and known to some as 'Rick Ali,' he was a father to five children. On April 14th, he was found deceased alongside Delivia Carron in her apartment on Kingston Avenue. The two had been fatally shot in what was determined to be a double homicide.
The investigation into the double murder spanned several years.
A significant breakthrough came in August 2018 when police charged a suspect in connection with the killings. The man taken into custody was Daquan Lampkins. It was revealed that Carron had a protective order against Lampkins, her ex-boyfriend, and had asked her friend, Ricky Jones, to be with her at her apartment out of fear for her safety. That evening, Lampkins arrived at the apartment and shot them both. He spared Carron's six-month-old son who was discovered by police in a back bedroom of the residence.
After years of legal proceedings, the case against Daquan Lampkins reached its conclusion in May 2023. A jury found him guilty on two counts of murder and for violating a protective order. He was subsequently sentenced to two life sentences without the possibility of parole. The conviction brought a long-awaited sense of justice to the families of Ricky Jones and Delivia Carron, who had endured years of grief and uncertainty. Ricky's mother, in particular, had been a steadfast advocate for justice while raising his five children.
