In the spring of 2017, a young woman's life was cut tragically short in Louisville, Kentucky. Twenty-two-year-old Tanea M. Woods, a female, died on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017, from a single gunshot wound. The events that led to her untimely death unfolded in the Park Hill housing complex, in the 1600 block of South 13th Street, and stemmed from a dispute that escalated into fatal violence.
On that Sunday morning, an argument erupted, reportedly after a woman began vandalizing Woods'
car with a baseball bat. When confronted, the situation quickly spiraled into a physical altercation. In the ensuing chaos, a gunshot rang out, striking Woods in the head. Another woman was also shot and critically injured during the incident. The violence that shattered the holiday morning left a community in shock and a family mourning the loss of a young life.
In the wake of the shooting, two suspects, a mother and her daughter, turned themselves in to Louisville Metro Police detectives. Forty-six-year-old Eltaka Moore and her 29-year-old daughter, Talibra Cherry, were arrested and charged with murder and assault. Moore was identified as the individual who allegedly fired the fatal shot that killed Tanea Woods. Both women were subsequently held on a $500,000 cash bond as they awaited further legal proceedings.
