In the summer of 2017, a young life was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. Sidney D. Smith, an 18-year-old male, was found deceased inside a residence in the Shawnee neighborhood on Sunday, July 23, 2017. The initial call to authorities shortly before 5 p.m. reported a man down in the 3600 block of Vermont Avenue, near Young Elementary School. When Louisville Metro Police officers arrived, they discovered Smith had sustained a gunshot wound.
Despite the coroner's office officially listing a gunshot wound as the cause of death, some neighbors in the area reported to news crews that they had not heard any gunshots. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. He was remembered by loved ones as a great kid who was deeply missed. In the days following his death, his family and friends mourned their loss, with funeral services held at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
